Exercise:
Calculate the moment of inertia of a bicycle wheel pq.cm in diameter. The rim and tire have a combined mass of pq.kg. The mass of the hub can be ignored why?.

Solution:
The moment of ertia is I mr^ pq.kg pq.m^ pq.kgm^. The mass of the hub can be ignored because it coincides with the axis of rotation. Therefore its distance to this axis is zero hence the moment of inertia is zero as well.
