Exercise:
Two wavelets with different wavelengths e.g. red and green are superposed on a screen. Explain why there will not be a fixed erference pattern.

Solution:
Because of the different wavelengths there is no constant phase relation between the two waves. At a given po on the screen there will be a back and forth between constructive and destructive erference. The time average does not dep on the position on the screen.
